Cuba and Venezuela Denounce U.S. Terrorist Protection

UNITED NATIONS, May 11, 2010.- Cuba and Venezuela today disclosed in the UN Security Council the continued protection that the U.S. government gives to international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, reported PL.

The matter was put before the UN body by the Permanent Representatives of Cuba, Pedro Nunez Mosquera, and Venezuela, Jorge Valero, speaking in a debate related to the issue of terrorism.

Both ambassadors reiterated the allegations of their respective governments about the protection Posada Carriles receives in the U.S., and recalled his long list of criminal acts, including the destruction of a Cuban airliner in flight, with a bomb, in 1976, an action in which all the passengers and crew perished.

Maria del Carmen Orellana, a counselor with the Cuban mission to the UN, noted that the U.S. authorities have never charged that criminal with terrorist actions, but a simple crime of illegal immigration.

She said the U.S. government has all the evidence and information concerning the guilt of Posada Carriles for the Cuban plane bombing and the bombings of several hotels in Havana in 1997.

Orellana said that if the terrorist himself has confessed his horrible crimes, what more do they need to act, and she demanded that he be tried in the United States or sent to Venezuela, which has requested his extradition.(Cubaminrex- Granma)
