Rev. Jesse Jackson says he hopes the wall between the U.S. and Cuba will fall.

QATAR, May 11, 2011. - U.S. Reverend Jesse Jackson labeled as obsolete the U.S. economic blockade against Cuba and said he hopes for the restoration of bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries, - which need each other - he emphasized.

”If we (US government) have talked, understood and established relations with China, which has a different ideology than ours, is an outdated thinking not to do it with Cuba,” noted the US civil rights activist.

”We are neighbors and need each other, we can develop bonds that could bring common benefits”, he said during an interview with Prensa Latina news agency in the Qatari capital, where he attends the XI Doha Forum, and then added “I hope one day, the wall that separates the United States and Cuba will fall.”

On the other hand, when asked if the western powers involved in the Arab revolt act in a transparent manner, he expressed his confidence that the popular movements for freedom know what to do.

He said that the world's progressive movements must work side by side with the people who want democracy, justice and freedom.

We must help to stop repressive regimes in this region, these people are demanding an end to all forms of oppressive control, and generally those oppressed end up rebelling sooner or later, he said.

However, the minister warned that western involvement in this revolutionary process appears like they’re trying to control or influence the situation, and that's counterproductive. We must support the Arab Spring, but not try control or divert it, he concluded.
