Former New York Times Reporter Defends Article at Posada Carriles Trial

March 22, 2011.- Former New York Times reporter, Ann Louise Bardach, testified that her 1998 interview with Luis Posada Carriles was accurate, and not exaggerated, as asserted by his defense attorneys during the trial.

The article said that Posada Carriles admitted planning hotel bombings and other attacks against Cuba in 1997, in which an Italian tourist was killed, and many others were wounded.

Bardach interviewed Posada Carriles for 13 hours in Aruba, where he was hiding at the time, and recorded half of the conversations.

She said that Posada Carriles agreed to the interview with the New York Times because he wanted to give more media exposure to the attacks in Cuba and to clarify that he only wanted to achieve a decrease in the number of tourists visiting the island.

He is currently being tried in El Paso, Texas for illegal entry into the United States and lying to immigration officials. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
