Posada Defense Lawyer Looks for Exclusion of Cuban Evidence

CUBA, February 9th, 2011.- The main defense lawyer in the trial of terrorist Posada Carriles, Arturo Hernández, asked Judge Kathleen Cardone on Tuesday to exclude some documents that Cuban experts will present during their testimony.

Because of his request, the Cuban witnesses in the trial will have to wait another day to testify about the death of the Italian tourist Fabio di Celmo, the victim of the terrorist attack on the Hotel Copacabana organized by Posada Carriles.

Hernandez stated that if the use of the documents from the Cuban witnesses were allowed, the judge should allow a week for the defense to have time to analyses the 6,500 pages of testimony that the Cuban authorities presented to their US counterparts.

In an interview published in the New York Times in 1998, Posada Carriles admitted that he was responsible for the crime in the hotel and that hi s objective was to damage tourism in Cuba.

However, when he was questioned by an immigration judge for his naturalization in the US in 2005, he denied his links to the bombing. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
