Cuba Applauds Evo Morales Win

Havana, Dec 22, 2005. (Prensa Latina) The government of Cuba commended MAS (Movement to Socialism) leader Evo Morales´ on his electoral victory in Bolivia and strongly condemned the US threats against that Andean nation.

This triumph will be a breakthrough in the history of Latin America and the world, stated National Assembly President Ricardo Alarcon, who read the message to Morales from the Cuban Congress and Council of State.

We greatly rejoice in the historic win of the Bolivian people and your presidential election by an indisputable majority, said the document unanimously approved by the assembly.

The message also criticized the obstacles set to prevent the MAS leader´s triumph, the tactics of the US and "those who want to strip people of their natural resources."

Although many Bolivians were arbitrarily deprived of their right to vote -to take thousands of votes from you- the extent of your victory was so great that they had to accept it, said the text.

The time has come for the true discovery of our continent, the indigenous, mixed race and black America. "You (Morales) and your nation have new challenges ahead so the solidarity of the world should be with you all," noted the letter.

The message said that Bolivia and Evo Morales proved that a better world is attainable.
