Cuba, CARICOM Strengthen Ties
Bridgetown, Dec 7 (Prensa Latina) The 2nd Cuba-CARICOM Summit in Barbados will further strengthen bilateral ties by showing the world its will to integrate the region.
Diplomats from the 15-strong CARICOM told Prensa Latina that the meeting will be a step forward to implement the accords adopted three years ago in Havana.
The Final Declaration of the 1st Summit on December 8, 2002, highlighted the need to strengthen existing institutions and mechanisms of integration.
Independence from Britain in 1972 brought key changes to regional political, economic, social and security, for it allowed CARICOM members to establish diplomatic ties with Cuba.
CARICOM has supported Cuba at international forums in demanding for the lifting of US unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade, violating international laws and the UN Charter.
Cuba and CARICOM favor independence, territorial integrity, non intervention and non interference in other states´ domestic affairs, and sustainable development.
The 2nd Summit will further boost these stands by enhancing cooperation in health care, education, culture, sports, agriculture and environment and prove that relations are at their best.
