EU
Silent about Case of Terrorist Luis Posada Carriles
Madrid, May 23 (Prensa Latina) The European Union and the 25 governments that
make up that regional bloc have remained silent about the case of terrorist
Luis Posada Carriles, the Spanish Internet portal "Rebelión"
criticizes.
"Rebelión" says that so far, neither the EU nor any governments
of the so-called Old Continent has made a statement on that murderer, the
most wanted terrorist in the Western Hemisphere and the confessed mastermind
of the blowing-up of a Cuban airliner in 1976 that killed all 73 people on
board.
The source points out that the attitude of the member-states of the European
Union does not match Europe´s proclaimed fight against terrorism.
Major European media organizations, it says, have widely covered what has
happened in the United States with Posada Carriles, and the repeated denunciations
and demands by Cuban and Venezuelan authorities to have the murderer extradited
and tried in Venezuela, from where he escaped in 1985.
However, adds "Rebelión", no statements have been made by
the main leaders of the European Union, thus proving the Old Continent"s
double standard on terrorism, the worst scourge affecting humankind since
the late 20th century, according to analysts.
