Havana, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Fidel Castro reminded the US government about the request he made 3 days ago in relation to the US intention to offer asylum to Cuban-born terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.
He made his statements in his national TV appearance before leaders of all the spheres of national life, and in the presence of survivors and relatives of victims of terrorist actions against Cuba since 1959.
The Cuban President revealed he had the impression that US authorities were surprised with his request.
His speech was preceded with film footage of terrorist attacks suffered by the Cuban people, including the crime in Barbados in October 1976, for which Posada Carriles is responsible.
Posada Carriles confessed to being author of sabotages against tourist facilities in Cuba at the end of the 90"s, and planning to kill the Cuban President during the Ibero American Summit in November 2000 in Panama.
His plot was discovered and denounced by Fidel Castro, thus the attack was frustrated, and Posada Carriles was arrested together with three other well-known terrorists of Cuban origin.
They were put to trial and convicted just on the charge of endangering public security and sentenced to a minor time of eight years in prison.
All four were later pardoned by then Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso in August 2004.
Three of them went immediately to the US, where they were received like heroes, and Posada Carriles took another course, until he recently reappeared in Miami, Florida, to ask the US authorities for political asylum.
He´s petitioning shelter on the grounds that he worked directly or indirectly for the CIA.
