Mozambique
and Cuba Strengthening Bonds
Maputo, May 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuban and Mozambican governments will take
a new step towards strengthening relations during the 15th Intergovernmental
Joint Commission from May 25 to 27 in Havana.
The meeting will include a broad Mozambican delegation led by Foreign Relations
and Cooperation Minister Alcinda Abreu.
Cuban Ambassador to Mozambique Eduardo Gonzalez Lerner told Prensa Latina
that the presence of Cuban collaborators in health care, education, social
welfare, tourism and other areas will increase benefits for both nations and
revitalize agreements signed by both governments.
Gonzalez Lerner recalled that Cuba had 57 health care professionals working
in Mozambique in 2001 and this number has tripled. At least 14 Cuban teachers
were also cooperating in this African country in 2001 but now the number has
increased to 62, which has helped to reduce the illiteracy level to 50 percent
of the population.
The Mozambican minister will carry out working meetings and visit different
centers for the development of cooperation between both nations, according
to Gonzalez Lerner.
