Posada Carriles Case Discredits US Government

Havana, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The US administration does not care about behaving honorably, with morality and seriousness in the case of terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, according to Cuban journalist and expert Eduardo Dimas.

In a television commentary, Eduardo Dimas condemned the way in which the hearing was held, as it was marked by inaction against the notorious criminal on one hand and strong criticism of Venezuela on the other.

The main strategy of Posada´s defense during the three-day hearing in El Paso, Texas, was to try to disqualify Venezuela as the venue for the trial if he were extradited, he emphasized.

The prosecutor only requested for a new hearing on September 26 to allow the defense to provide conclusive evidence to prove that Posada would be mistreated if deported to Caracas, the commentator said.

Dimas added the North American government must extradite the confessed criminal to the South American nation and promptly suspend the farce of the immigration hearing.

Making reference to assessments by prominent German intellectual Bertold Brecha on nazi-fascism, the Cuban journalist said the lack of morality in the Posada Carriles case represented "the rise of the dirty beast."

He asserted that the White House was bent on protecting a person who worked for it and was connected to George Bush, senior, when he ran the Central Intelligence Agency.

It is impossible to believe that Bush, Sr, did not know that Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch plotted the mid-air bombing of the Cuban airliner in which 73 died in 1976, and what is worse, the Pentagon and the CIA are interested in shutting Posada Carriles up, Dimas stressed.

To expect that the US government punish Posada Carriles in the hearing next September 26 would be like asking for the impossible, concluded the TV commentator.
