Cordoba, July 22, 2006. (RHC)-- Cuba and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) signed a commercial accord during the 30th Mercosur Summit, which wound up in the afternoon in Cordoba, Argentina. The accord includes tariff preferences for both parties in an effort to increase trade. The summit was attended by presidents Nestor Kirchner of Argentina, Luiz Inacio Lula of Brazil, Nicanor Duarte of Paraguay, Tabare Vazquez of Uruguay and Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, all full Mercosur members. Also present were presidents Michelle Bachelet of Chile and Evo Morales of Bolivia, whose countries are associated to Mercosur, and Cuban President Fidel Castro, who participated as a special invited guest.
