Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago to Increase Trade

Havana, February 2, 2006 (AIN) Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago will increase their relations with the creation of an office to facilitate commerce, announced Jerry Narace representative of the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Tourism and Trade in Havana on Wednesday.

Narace explained that the office will have its headquarters in Havana and will facilitate exchanges, contributing to the elimination of linguistic barriers and differences among the two country's commercial systems.

The office will also expand the access to the markets of both Caribbean nations and serve to extend negotiations in the near future to other states in the region.

Narace said the documents to officially open the trade office were presented before the Chamber of Commerce in Havana and a request was filed for the authorization to operate from the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

Trinidad and Tobago is the nation with the highest presence of foreign investment in the Caribbean and constitutes one of Cuba's leading trading partners in the area, said Edilia Prince, representative of the island's Foreign Trade Ministry.
