Cuban and Venezuelan Parliamentarians Unite Latin American Integration
Havana, March 30 (RHC-AIN)-- A Cuba-Venezuela friendship group arrives in
Cuba on Thursday to consolidate relations between legislators of the two countries.
The five-member group, made up of parliamentarians from both nations, was created this past Monday in Caracas to promote the exchange of legislative information and foster cooperation activities in areas of common interests, reported Granma daily newspaper.
The group's president, Iris Varela, told the press that one of their goals is to encourage solidarity with Cuba in different international scenarios. They seek to put an end to the US economic, financial and commercial blockade on Cuba and to demand the release of five Cuban anti-terrorists who have been kept in American jails for no legal reasons since 1998.
Varela highlighted Cuba and Venezuela's contributions to a literacy campaign underway in Bolivia which is using the "I Can Do It" Cuban teaching method. This approach teaches people to read and write in a period of three months.
Pointing out the main expectations of the newly created group, its leader said, "We know that the Cuban and Venezuelan parliaments can contribute to the well being, happiness and dignity of the peoples of the continent through the Latin American integration accords of the Bolivarian Alternative of the Americas (ALBA).
