Haiti and Cuba Sign Important Accords

CUBA, December 2, 2006.- Cuba and Haiti have signed cooperation agreements for 2006-2007. At the signing ceremony in Havan were Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo and Haitian President Rene Preval, who characterized the event as an honor as it was signed in the context of the celebrations for the 80th birthday of Fidel Castro and the 50th anniversary of the landing of the Granma yacht.

After signing the document, whose content details the possibility of exchanges in 14 sectors, Preval assured that the cooperation with the island would not have been possible without the determination of President Fidel Castro.

The Haitian President thanked on behalf of his people the presence of Cuban workers in Haiti and over 800 Haitian students studying on the island where they "they are not only learning technical issues but also what fraternity and solidarity means". (Cubaminrex.-RHC)
