Ecuador Minister of Foreign Affairs Busy in Havana

Havana, Jul 6, 2006. (Prensa Latina) Cuba"s Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque and Ecuador"s Francisco Carrion are due to start official talks in this capital.

The Ecuadorian minister will also sign an agreement of cooperation to exchange information and technical consultancy between the two foreign affairs ministries.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the diplomat said this is his first visit to the island and it is an honor for him in moments that both peoples and governments are fostering ties of friendships.

The aim of his visit, he expressed, is to deepen the close historical links between the two countries on the basis of the current excellent relations.

In a note from Quito, Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that Carrion will talk with Cuban officials on the arrangements of the 14th Non-Aligned Countries Movement Summit to be run in Havana on September 11-16.

The visitor high diplomat will also prepare the agenda of the visit to Cuba by Ecuadorian President Alfredo Palacios, who will also attend the Non-Aligned event.

Carrion laid a wreath this morning at the Jose Marti monument in Havana"s Revolution Square.

His agenda also includes visiting the Latin American School of Medicine and other sites of scientific, cultural and historic interest and meeting with the government"s top officials.

Carrion Mena, who will stay here until July 8, also talked of the several projects of cooperation between the two nations in the spheres of health, education, culture and sports.
