Cuban President Fidel Castro received the Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, prime minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana Thursday afternoon.
The Cuban and Dominican delegations exchanged ideas on common interests and international events in an atmosphere of friendship that characterizes relations between the two Caribbean island nations and their leaders.
Roosevelt Skerrit, who also serves as Dominica’s Minister of Finances, Planning and National Security, is on his fourth visit to Cuba. He will follow a program that includes visits to several healthcare and energy centers.
Talks with the Dominica PM were held Thursday with the participation of Fidel Castro, Public Health Minister Jose Ramon Balaguer, Basic Industry Minister Yadira Garcia, Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque and Government Minister Ricardo Cabrisas, who had welcomed the PM earlier at the Jose Marti International Airport.
Cuba and Dominica reestablished diplomatic relations in May, 1996. A total of 238 young Dominicans have graduated from Cuban educational centers and 15 Cuban professionals are currently offering their services in Dominica under cooperation agreements.
