We Must Back Cuba for its Solidarity, says Evo Morales

Havana, May 31, 2006. (ACN) Bolivian President Evo Morales underscored the strong friendship and cooperation links between his country and Cuba and praised Cuba for its medical assistance.

Morales spoke during a ceremony to receive an equipment lot donated by Cuba to a Bolivian hospital located in the indigenous locality of Escoma, near the border with Peru.

The Bolivian Head of State thanked Cuba and President Fidel Castro for the inauguration in his country of the first out of 20 hospitals outfitted with equipment sent from the Caribbean island and noted that "Sooner or later, once we get out of this economic crisis, we will also support Cuba."

He said that despite the over-40 year US economic blockade, Cuba continues to maintain solidarity cooperation with Bolivia and other countries, what is something admirable, said Morales.

The Bolivian President also said he was really impressed at the advancement of the Operation Miracle free-eye surgery program which has returned the sight to so many people. More than 12,000 Bolivians have thus far been benefitted witht the Cuban surgery program.
