Bolivia 's President Honors Cuban Doctors

LA PAZ , December 4, 2007.- President Evo Morales celebrated Latin American Medicine Day by holding a tribute to the Cuban doctors working in Bolivia.

"Despite being a country economically blockaded, Cuba teaches us to support others," said Morales who also sent a greeting to Fidel Castro.

Cuba 's current medical assistance to Bolivia consists of 2,200 health workers, including doctors (1,553), nurses, paramedics, lab technicians and auxiliary personnel.

Morales recalled in his speech that he personally received the solidarity of the Cuban health system when he was treated for an ailment on the island. Bolivia 's first indigenous president also noted that at the Cuban facility where he was treated he "didn't see one sign saying cashier, to pay for a doctor's visit," informed EFE news service.
