CUBA, January 9, 2007.- Cuban Foreign Minister, Felipe Perez Roque, gave Brazilian ambassador to the island, Tilden Jose Santiago, the friendship medal for his four years of efforts to further develop bilateral relations and strengthen political, economic and social exchanges between the two nations. The ceremony, held on Monday at the headquarters of the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX), was attended by vice Foreign Minister, Alejandro Gonzalez; Cuban Friendship Institute vice-President, Enrique Roman; other government and Communist Party leaders; diplomats accredited in Havana; and family members of the ambassador. Enrique Roman read the agreement of the Council of State bestowing the award on the Brazilian ambassador. In his words of appreciation Tilden Jose Santiago reflected on the ties of friendship and collaboration established during his tenure. He said the decoration was more collective than individual as a recognition of all those who contributed to his efforts. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
