Nicaragua to Honor Cuban Intellectuals

CUBA, February 22, 2007.- Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto and seven young writers will be awarded Nicaragua's Ruben Dario Cultural Independence Award on Saturday at a public ceremony presided over by President Daniel Ortega.

Rosario Murillo, coordinator of the government's Citizenship and Communications Council, announced the decision to award the Cuban intellectuals during a ceremony in which Daniel Ortega granted distinctions to a group Nicaraguan culture workers.

We will recognize the Cuban intellectual's huge efforts on behalf of the cultures of Latin America, said Murillo, also the wife of President Ortega.

The awards ceremony for the Cuban creators will take place in an indigenous neighbourhood of the city of Masaya, 30 kilometers east of Managua. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
