CUBA, July 8, 2007.- A Cuban delegation headed by Vice President Esteban Lazo is in Haiti to verify the state of the island´s cooperation programs underway in that Caribbean nation. After arriving to Port Au Prince, the Cuban delegation participated in a meeting with Haitian mayors and community leaders. The visitors were able to get a first hand look at details and perspectives of Cuban cooperation in the fields of health, education, sugar industry, fishing, and energy. After a round of bilateral talks, the Cuban delegation participated in the inauguration of an opthamological center in the Haitian capital, one of the two that were constructed with Cuban cooperation and in which some 7 000 people have already received the benefits of Operation Milagro, which is a Cuba Venezuela sponsored program where low income people from the region receive free eye treatment. Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo said that the island will continue aiding the sister nation, not only in the field of health, but also in the literacy campaign, energy, sugar production, fishing, agricultural development among others.
