Nicaraguan Ambassador Thanks Cuba for Aid

CUBA, July 19, 2007.- Nicaraguan ambassador to Cuba, Luis Cabrera Gonzalez, has acknowledged the island's humanitarian aid to his country.

In statements published by Juventud Rebelde newspaper, Cabrera also thanked the island's support for the Nicaraguan Revolution.

The diplomat highlighted the stoicism of the Cuban people who, led by President Fidel Castro, have survived a ten year economic crisis intensified by the US blockade on the island for over 45 years.

"Cuba and Nicaragua have always maintained open relations," said Cabrera who also referred to the mutual support between the governments of presidents Daniel Ortega and Fidel Castro.

As an example of the Cuban aid to Nicaragua, Cabrera noted that the 59 Nicaraguan doctors who graduated this year in the island will join a medical brigade scheduled to serve on the Atlantic coast of that Central American nation. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
