SURINAME . July 16 , 2007.- Eight Cubans and ten students from technical schools have within three weeks supplied 95 percent of the district of Nickerie with energy saving light bulbs. This activity is part of the energy saving light bulbs project that is being executed by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Suriname in cooperation with the Cuban government. According to Brian Overeem , who is the manager of the government energy company, EBS, in Nickerie, the community has responded in a positive way to this project. He says that the Cuban - Suriname team in the past two weeks has distributed at least 20.000 energy saving light bulbs in the Nickerie district. The use of energy saving light bulbs in homes benefits not only the consumers but also the energy company, said Overeem to surinamese newspaper de Ware Tijd. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Suriname)
