CUBA, March 22, 2007.- A delegation of Cuban authors led by Minister of Culture, writer Abel Prieto, is participating in the 2nd Cuba-Venezuela Meeting taking place in Caracas since Thursday. During the meeting, the participants will discuss the role of art as a tool to achieve Latin American integration. The Cuban delegation is made up of renowned scholars such as National Prize of Literature laureates Cesar Lopez and Reynaldo Gonzalez; National Prize of Social Sciences, historian Eduardo Torres-Cuevas; writers Eduardo Heras Leon, Desiderio Navarro and Senel Paz; and essayist Eliades Acosta. The event is also being attended by a group of young and talented Cuban writers such as Omar Valino and Norge Espìnosa, who will join some thirty other Venezuelan writers. The meeting will run until Friday. It includes concerts and debates on the consolidation and promotion of the list of titles launched by El Alba publishing house. The role of Cuba and Venezuela in the process of regional integration, and the significance of culture will be among the main topics of discussion, reports the Bolivian News Agency. This encounter is the preamble of a meeting of the Ministers of Culture from Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Ecuador, Cuba, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Venezuela who will discuss new ideas on integration.
