Cuba , Panama to Ink New Accords

CUBA , November 5, 2007.-  Panamanian First Vice President and Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis is due to sign  two accords with Cuban authorities on air transportation and maritime cooperation.

His agenda here also includes meeting with his Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez Roque and presiding over the celebration of the Panama Day in his country's pavilion at the 25th Havana International Trade Fair.

Shortly before traveling to Cuba , the Panamanian diplomatic head told Prensa Latina that his official visit to the island is an expression of the good course of the diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries.

The official termed very positive the results of several projects of cooperation, among them the Operation Miracle free eye surgery program, and the literacy campaign with the Cuban method "Yo Si Puedo" (Yes, I Can).

Nearly 541 Panamanian students had been graduated from Cuban institutions until last year, and there are another 519 scholarship holders from that Central American nation studying here.

Cuba and Panama also hold cooperation in culture, sports, energy and agriculture. (Cubaminrex-PL)
