Summit Reveals Regional Social Woes

CHILE, November 7, 2007.-  The theme of the XVII Ibero American Summit, social cohesion, reveals that the region has problems of health, education, employment and social security, expressed Abelardo Moreno, Cuban vice minister of Foreign Affairs.

In declarations to Prensa Latina, Moreno who is also the Cuban National Coordinator to the Summit , said that social cohesion should be seen as social development to combat social injustice, inequalities and marginalization.

Moreno added that negotiations were shaping up well since before there were other meetings of the National Coordinators, where documents were almost completed.

At the same time experts worked on the agenda of the meeting of chancellors to begin Thursday in what has been called Ibero American City, located on the outskirts of Santiago that will also host Heads of State on Friday and Saturday.

The pro tempore secretary, Carlos Portales, the general secretary, Enrique Iglesias, and the person in charge of Cooperation, Eugenio Perez, inaugurated the III Meeting of National Coordinators and Cooperation the day before.
