President's Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez Exchange Ideas During the Venezuelan Leader's Alo Presidente Program Held in Cuban city of Santa Clara.

CUBA, October 14, 2007.- President's Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro exchanged ideas on Sunday live on the Venezuelan leader's weekly program Alo Presidente from the central Cuban city of Santa Clara.

With the image of the legendary guerrilla behind the Venezuelan leader, he stressed that the ideas of the Cuban Revolution has been planted in Latin America.

The Venezuelan Head of State said that Fidel is the leader of the peoples in the world and added that "we have the comittment of saving humanity".

Chavez affirmed that socialism is the system that can and will save humanity, eitherwise, he said the world will be barbaric.

The Venezuelan Head of State affirmed that the example of Ernesto Che Guevara is stronger than ever. "He is a true example of revolutionary virtues", said Chavez during his Alo Presidente program aired live from the Cuban city of Santa Clara dedicated to the Heroic Guerrilla.

Hugo Chavez revealed, that according to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Che had innitially thought of travelling to Venezuela and not Bolivia.

He stressed that Che's decision was related to the existance in Venezuela of popular movements at the time.

Chavez also met with Che's widow, Aleida Guevara and daughters Aleidita, Celia, as well as his sons Camilo and Ernesto.

In reference to the statue of Ernesto Guevara, President Hugo Chavez said "there he is, looking towards the south, the Caribbean, South America".

Meanwhile, President Hugo Chavez met with his Cuban counterpart on Saturday after being met upon his arrival to the Jose Marti Internacional Airport by Vice President Carlos Lage and Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque.

Both leaders talked about Che Guevara, history and bilateral relations.

The live broadcast from the city of Santa Clara was immediately reported worldwide as well as Hugo Chavez' meeting with the Cuban leader.

AFP's headlines was "Fidel Castro speaks directly to Hugo Chavez on the weekly Alo Presidente program, while DPA reported "Fidel Castro meets Hugo Chavez in Havana".

There were similar reports from El Nacional in Venezuela, El Universo from Ecuador, La Capital in Argentina, Radio Nacional de Venezuela as well as news agencies in Europe and the United States.

ANSA reported that the 81 year old Fidel, "appeared sitting, smiling, dressed in a sports suit with the colors of the Cuban flag, talking with Chavez and recalling legendary guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara".

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez' conversation with President Fidel Castro was also reported by El Tribuno in Argentina, El Financiero in Mexico, Terra Espana, La Verdad and 123 Chile among many other news agencies in Latin America and the world. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
