Cuban doctors give presentations in workshop

SURINAME, September 6. In a workshop the Cuban doctors who are part of the Cuban Medical Brigade that is now working in Suriname, will share their knowledge and experiences with their Surinamese colleagues and officials from the health sector.

The doctors of the Cuban Medical Brigade will give presentations on common diseases in Cuba and Suriname. Also they will speak about their experiences in their daily work in Suriname.

In the workshop also information will be presented about the Milagro Project in general and about the implementation of this project in Suriname.  The Milagro Project is a project whereby patients with eye afflictions are being treated free of charge by Cuban eye specialists.

The Cuban Medical Brigade arrived on April 18, 2007 in Suriname. The doctor of the Brigade are specialized in general medicine, internal medicine, epidemiology, anesthesiology, pediatrics, radiology, urology and pharmacology. They work in Paramaribo, Nickerie and the interior.

On August 28, 2007 the Ministries of Health of respectively Cuba and Suriname signed a cooperation agreement which among other subjects incorporates the activities of the Cuban Medical Brigade. (Cubaminrex- Embacuba Suriname)
