Honduran President Asks His Decision to Join ALBA Be Respected

CUBA, August 26. Honduras' President Manuel Zelaya called opposing sectors to respect his country’s decision to join the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA).

The Honduran president referred in specific to certain sectors within his country that seek to boycott the decision to adhere to the ALBA, reported Prensa Latina. He encouraged those who oppose the decision to support the project as he explained that it could be of great benefit for the people.

This is a social Latin American agreement and an association between states, explained Zelaya at a press conference, who is due to sign the accord this Monday with his counterparts from Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua and a representative from Cuba.

Zelaya also demanded the U.S. government to respect his country's freedom to associate and integrate with Central and Latin America in order to progress, noted Zelaya.

The Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (known as ALBA by its Spanish acronym), seeks to transform Latin American societies to make them more just, better educated, more unified and more participatory. It stresses mutually beneficial trade and social development ( Cubaminrex- PL).
