Suriname. December 23, 2008.- At the embassy of Cuba in Suriname, members from the associations of Parents of Surinamese students in Cuba and former students in Cuba celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. They expressed their unconditional support to the Cuban Revolution and to its social, political and solidarity projects. The Cuban ambassador to Suriname, Andrés González Garrido, stated that the Cuban Revolution during these five decades, has faced all obstacles that the policy of the United States has erected against the island. He also said that Cubans always have maintained the ethical freedom, dignity, and principles of the National Hero Jose Martí, and the ideas of Fidel and Raul after January 1, 1959. Further more the diplomat referred that the heroic Antillean Island has always helped other brothers countries. Even when Cuba was itself experiencing difficult times, it has always offered cooperation and aid to other countries. Gloria Christopher, coordinator of the Association of Parents of Surinamese Students in Cuba, expressed her gratefulness to the government of Cuba for the opportunity that it offers to Surinamese youths to study in Cuba. She also called on behalf of all the Surinamese parents for an immediate end of the blockade of the United States against the island. Finally Gloria stated that in 2009 members of the Association of Parents will continue and increase their support for the Revolution and will continue demanding the end of the blockade. During the activity several former students expressed their admiration, respect and gratefulness to the Cuban people and government for having had the opportunity to study in Cuba. Now they work as doctors, engineers, teachers, pharmacologists and in other professions. They sent a message of love and solidarity to Cuba for the 50th anniversary. Presently more than 60 Surinamese are studying in Cuba and 43 have graduated from Cuban institutions. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Suriname) |
