Brazil Lula Meets Fidel Castro in Cuba

CUBA, January 16, 2008.-  The meeting between Cuba"s President Fidel Castro and Brazil"s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been given extensive spaces in Cuban mass media Wednesday.

"Granma" and "Juventud Rebelde" newspapers, with the largest distribution on the island, publish on their front and interior pages photos of the dialogue both statesmen held for over two hours.

A healthy looking Fidel Castro was photographed with the Brazilian statesman, who carried out an official visit for over 24 hours to the island, the second one since he is the president of his country.

Before leaving his country, Lula told national and foreign press that he talked with the revolutionary leader on all possible issues.

"I get the impression Fidel Castro"s health is on the mend," stated Lula after predicting that "the Cuban leader will be ready very soon to assume his political role in the island, in history and in the current globalized world."

The Brazilian president expressed his great passion for the Cuban revolution and Latin American integration, in which Brazil has a great responsibility.

Radio and TV news programs headline today both leaders" encounter, and continue with results of Lula"s stay here, which ended with the signing of 10 accords.

Inked in presence of Lula and Cuban First Vice President Raul Castro, the documents include cooperation in sectors like oil exploitation, agriculture, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. (Cubaminrex-PL)
