Lula to Visit Guatemala, Cuba

BRASIL, January 14, 2008.-  Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva highlighted the importance of the visits he will carry out Monday to Guatemala and Cuba.

Lula told Radio Brasil that they are part of a strategy to bring this nation closer to the Latin American countries.

Referring to Guatemala, the statesman said that Brazil will contribute with the development of Central American countries.

Lula expects to talk personally with statesmen from those nations at the inauguration of Guatemalan President-Elect Alvaro Colom.

About Colom he said that this is an important moment for Guatemala because he is a progressive man, with social commitments and have already proved interest in learning from the Brazilian social policies.

Lula asserted that from Guatemala, he will travel to Cuba to sign a series of accords, as part of the Brazilian policy to the Caribbean countries.

Brazil is interested in discovering if Cuba has oil in deep waters, and mentioned his intention of supporting the construction of a lubricant factory in the island. (Cubaminrex-PL)
