CUBA, April 30, 2008. Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz met on Wednesday with Panama’s head of state Martin Torrijos. Torrijos also spoke on the phone with Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro. Following the official welcome ceremony for Torrijos in Havana, both heads of state addressed the course of bilateral relations between their countries and exchanged on regional and international issues. Raul Castro and Martin Torrijos attended the signing of a bilateral cooperation protocol on the rational and efficient use of energy, as well as on the exploitation of renewable energy sources. After the signing of the protocol the Panamanian President spoke on the phone with Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro about relations between his country and Cuba. Torrijos was accompanied by First Vice-president and Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis Navarro, Trade and Industry Minister Carmen Gisela Vergara, the Panamanian ambassador to Havana Luis Gomez Perez, and the director of COPA Airlines Jaime Arias. The meeting was also attended by Cuban Vice-president Carlos Lage; Health Minister Jose Ramon Balaguer; the head of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee, Fernando Remirez de Estenoz; Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque; Foreign Investment Minister Marta Lomas; Cuba´s ambassador to Panama Carlos Garcia.
