Global Crisis at ALBA Forum

VENEZUELA, November 26, 2008. Important state missions of countries linked to the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) are meeting Wednesday in Caracas to debate the global financial crisis.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez had confirmed early this week that the summit of ALBA heads of State would be held, and announced that Bolivia´s Statesman Evo Morales and Nicaragua´s Daniel Ortega would attend the forum.

Speeches by Honduras´ President Manuel Zelaya, Ecuador´s Rafael Correa, a high Cuban official and several representatives from other Caribbean nations are also included in the agenda, he stressed.

“We will analyze proposals together, to face the current international crisis originated in the United States that threatens several of our nations and could induce undesirable social problems,” Chavez stated.

“This will be a fast meeting, because Russian President Dimitri Medvedev will arrive in Venezuela that day, and we have a full agenda of meetings and interviews,” he stressed.

The statesman said Ecuador would attend the ALBA meeting as a guest country, because it is not an official member of the group.

He said the objective of the meeting is to analyze credit irregularities in the world, from the point of view of developing countries, and will be followed by another assembly of the ALBA members and those of the the Petrocaribe energy agreement.

The ALBA is an integrationist and social accord, signed by Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Venezuela.(Cubaminrex- PL)
