Terrorist Posada Carriles Requests US Citizenship
Havana, April 26, 2006 (ACN) Notorious terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who has been the mastermind of several terrorist activities against Cuba, will be interviewed this Wednesday in El Paso, Texas, by US immigration on the criminal's American citizenship petition.
According to his lawyer, Cuban-born Posada Carriles, has applied for American citizenship to ensure his stay in the US, says a report by Juventud Rebelde newspaper.
The request is based on Posada's "service" to the US as a soldier during the Viet Nam war in the 1970's and also for his work as a CIA agent.
Posada was arrested by federal police in May 2005 after entering into the US illegally.
Posada's deportation was temporarily suspended after Judge William Lee Abbott based his ruling of not extraditing the criminal to Venezuela, as requested, nor to Cuba on the International Convention against Torture. The judge claimed that Posada would be submitted to torture if he were turned over to either of the two countries.
According to La Riva, the US government has been protecting Posada because he planned the sabotage of a Cuban airliner in 1976 while he was working for the CIA. All 73 people onboard were killed.
Despite his wide criminal record, Washington refuses to accept Venezuela's extradition petition against Posada Carriles.
