Cantata Against Terrorism Held in Havana

CUBA, May 12, 2007.-  A night of song and verse took place Friday at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Plaza in front of the U.S. Interests Section in Havana in repudiation of the Bush administration's decision to harbor Luis Posada Carriles in Miami.

Thousands of young people shared with the some 300 musicians and actors who took turns on the stage. A call for justice was the uniting theme as the participants paid tribute to the victims of terrorism instigated by Washington and also demanded that the Cuban Five, who fought against this same scourge, be released from their U.S. prison cells.

Ana Victoria Casadesus, speaking on behalf of the Young Communist League (UJC), opened the evening emphasizing that by not putting Posada on trial, the commitments between the Bush family and the criminal are more than evident. Among other crimes, Posada masterminded the mid-flight sabotage bombing of a Cuban airliner in 1976 that killed 73 persons. He has also boasted about a series of deadly Havana hotel explosions in 1997 and several assassination attempts.
