Cuba-CARICOM Ministerial Meeting Condemns Terrorism

CUBA, May 31, 2007.- The ministers of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM,

condemned all kinds of terrorist actions, during their second Cuba-CARICOM meeting held earlier this week in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

In a communiqué issued by the Ministerial Meeting, participants reaffirmed their strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and ways, wherever terrorist acts may take place and by anyone who commits them, including those in which the United States are directly or indirectly involved.

The CARICOM ministers recalled the terrorist attack against a Cubana airliner in October 1976, which claimed 73 innocent lives including Cuban nationals and a citizen from a CARICOM member state.

The communiqué issued by the Cuba-CARICOM meeting reads that all Caribbean ministers noted with concern the release in the United States of Luis Posada Carriles, one of the authors of the bombing of a Cubana airliner in 1976 killing 73 people on board. Carriles is also accused of many other terrorist actions against Cuba and other countries.

The Caribbean officials also reiterated their request that all authors of such actions face justice and they called on the US administration to take appropriate action in relation to notorious terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who is accused under US jurisdiction, in tune with that government's commitment to the resolutions of the UN General Assembly and Security Council on terrorism.

The CARICOM Ministerial Meeting also recalled that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela requested the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles and reiterated its call on Washington to meet that request in order to have the notorious terrorist face trial for his crimes.

In tune with the UN Charter, the Caribbean ministers called on all nations to honor their compromises in the struggle against terrorism and they stressed the importance of international cooperation in that direction, according to international law.
