Cuba Terror Victims Demand Justice

CUBA, April 11, 2007.- The Cuban committee of relatives of the Barbados crime victims reiterated their demand for justice in the trial of Luis Posada Carriles, the confessed mastermind of that terrorist attack in 1976.

The committee is made up of the parents, spouses and siblings of the Cubans who died in the sabotage of the Cuban plane in the Caribbean island of Barbados.

International Cuban-born terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, currently detained in the US, admitted his liability in that attack and the serial explosions at Havana hotels in 1997, one of which killed an Italian tourist.

However, after a judicial process in US territory for illegally entering that country, Posada Carriles could be out on parole until May 11.

By that date, the accused will have to answer only for migration charges so far, though there is an extradition request by Venezuela, from where he broke out of jail in 1985.

The US attorney general s office had appealed the decision for bail, alleging there are no guarantees for the criminal to stay in that country, which was denied yesterday.

Cuban analysts and authorities, as well as popular sectors in other countries consider Carriles possible release a sign of the Bush administration s double standard in its alleged anti-terror fight.

The fifth edition of the book "Crime in Barbados," containing details of that terrorist event, will be launched in Havana today.
