CUBA , May 15, 2007.- Cuba is expected to present Tuesday more evidence on the responsibility of Luis Posada Carriles in the terrorism carried out in the 90s against tourist and economic facilities here. Experts and investigators from the Department of Crimes against State Security are due to declare in the political trial taking place since Monday by a youth anti-terrorist court. Posada Carriles, recently freed in the United States, is the mastermind of a group of terror acts executed by several Central American mercenaries between 1997 and 1998, who placed bombs in Havana hotels and other social sites. The aim of those actions was to collapse the tourist sector and destabilize the country. To do that, Posada recruited and trained people from Guatemala and other countries of the region, who traveled to Cuba as tourists with false identities. Cuban courts proved in all cases Posada Carriles responsibility in organizing and financing those terrorist actions. The political trial also includes declarations by experts on criminal law and international relations about the frustrated assassination attempt against Cuban President Fidel Castro at Panama University in November 2000.
