Nicaragua Wants Posada Extradited

NICARAGUA, May 14, 2007.- The Nicaraguan government is currently formalizing an extradition request to Cuban-born terrorist Luis Posada Carriles before US authorities, Foreign Minister Samuel Santos stated.

According to the Nicaraguan diplomatic head, the petition will be based on terrorist actions Posada Carriles committed during the CIA covert war against the Sandinista Revolution in the 80s.

The decision to try him on Nicaraguan territory was announced by President Daniel Ortega, after the criminal was released on bail by a US federal judge.

Posada Carriles, responsible for the mid-air explosion of a Cuban airplane with 73 people on board in 1976 and other terrorist actions against the Caribbean island, was charged and acquitted with migratory fraud in United States.(Cubaminrex-PL)
