Pierre Richard Protests Posada Bail

CUBA, May 2, 2007.- French actor Pierre Richard, well-known for comedy classics like "Le Grand Blond Avec Une Chassure Noire (The Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe)," added his voice Wednesday to that of almost five thousand celebrities condemning the release on bail of international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.

The star of "La Chevre (The Goat)," signed the document "Posada Carriles should be judged for his crimes," published April 16 by Network in Defense of Humanity.

The document reads that "while in the name of the struggle against terrorism hundreds of thousands of people have died in Iraq, Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, the US government grants protection to the most notorious terrorist of the Western Hemisphere." "The US intention is to mislead the public with never-ending and pseudo legal maneuvers, refusing to judge him for the real crimes committed," continues the document.

The declaration points out that "with the treatment granted to Posada Carriles, US authorities, pressured by Cuban extremist groups from southern Florida, have proven the double-standard of their war against terrorism." The document was also signed by Nobel Prizewinners Adolfo Perez Esquivel and Rigoberta Menchu (Peace), Nadine Gordimer and Harold Pinter (literature) and Zhores Alfiorov (physics), among other notables from politics, science and culture.
