Release of Terrorist Posada Sparks New Protests

Some 200 people gathered near the US Embassy in San Salvador on Monday to protest the freeing on bail of terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who is now in Miami.

"This is an insult to humanity," said Reverend Roberto Pineda, a member of the Salvadoran Steering Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and as reported by Associated Press.

The police installed a barbed wire fence to block the path of the demonstrators who were shouting slogans and carrying signs against George W. Bush and President Antonio Saca of El Salvador. "Posada assassin" was constantly heard from the crowd.

A letter delivered to the US diplomatic mission also denounced the unjust imprisonment of the Cuban Five anti-terrorist fighters in US jails for going on nine years.

In a similar manner, the Uruguayan trade union federation condemned the release of Posada Carriles, calling it an insult to justice, reported Prensa Latina.

The labor organization notes that, in contrast, the Cuban Five remain in prison for denouncing and preventing many of the terrorist actions prepared by Posada Carriles.

The German Communist Party also joined the wave of protests that the White House decision to free Posada Carriles has generated worldwide.

Heinz Stehr, president of the German Communist Party, said the release of this international criminal is an example of the true position of the United States in regards to terrorism. 1 May, 2007 (Cubaminrex-Granma)
