The Federation of Independent Trade Unions and NGOs (FITUN) presents this Resolution on the subject of the terrorist Posada Carriles for adoption at its May Day Rally, May 1st 2007 in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. WHEREAS: Posada Carriles was released on bail in the United States by decision made on April 6th, by Federal Judge Kathleen Cardone in El Paso, Texas, thus giving freedom to a known and notorious terrorist thus violating all international norms; AND WHEREAS: There is a huge amount of evidence that links Posada to the bombing of the Cubana airline in 1976 which caused the deaths of 73innocent persons amongst them being young Cuban athletes and other Caribbean citizens; as well as an assassination plot against Fidel Castro a few years ago and the bomb attacks at several hotels in Cuba, one of which resulted in the death of an Italian tourist; AND WHEREAS: The said Posada Carriles has been able to evade being brought to justice because of his well known and established links with the CIA and other US State agencies, this latest release being but the last of several acts that have frustrated the legitimate expectations of the families of his victims that justice and closure would be effected on their murders; AND WHEREAS: The Bolivarian Republic has made an official request to the United States Government for the extradition of Carriles to Venezuela so that hw could stand trial in that country for the 1976 Cubana bombing, the plot being carried out in that country and Posada and other co-conspirators having been arrested in 1976 for that crime but released under mysterious circumstances; AND WHEREAS: We the people of Trinidad and Tobago have an especial interest in Posada being brought to justice, the Cubana flight having also stopped in Trinidad and the perpetrators identified through the excellent police work here; AND WHEREAS: We unreservedly condemn all acts of terrorism and therefore condemn the George Bush regime which piously criticizes terrorism while in reality perpetrating the worst atrocities in modern history, including allowing the terrorist Posada Carriles to operate with impunity; WE THE WORKING PEOPLE, FARMERS, YOUTH, RETIRED WORKERS, FISHERFOLK AND OTHER CONCERNED CITIZENS OF THE CARIBBEAN DEMAND: 1. That the US Government take immediate steps to revoke the bail of the terrorist Carriles and have him returned to jail 2. That the US Government co-operate fully with the Venezuelan Government to ensure that Carriles is immediately extradited to Venezuela to stand trial for the 1976 bombing of the Cubana airplane May 1st 2007. |
