Thinkers Want Posada Extradited

CUBA, April 27, 2007.- Colombian novelist Laura Restrepo on Friday called for terrorist Luis Posada Carriles extradition to Venezuela to be tried for the explosion of a Cuban plane off Barbados in 1976.

That sabotage claimed the lives of 73 people, and his author has not yet been tried or sentenced in the US, whose authorities have resorted to infinite maneuvers to try to confuse public opinion.

Restrepo, 2004 Algafuara Prize winner, signed the call "In Defense of Humanity," which urges Washington to try Posada Carriles for his real crimes or extradite him to Venezuela.

As many as 4,375 thinkers worldwide, including cultural and political figures, human rights activists, pacifists, and civil organizations have already joined the call.

The signatories highlight Washington s stance reveals pressures by Cuban extremist groups in southern Florida, and the double standard behind the alleged US anti-terror fight. (Cubaminrex-PL)
