Trinidad Workers Union Blast U.S Freeing of Posada

CUBA, May 15, 2007.- Trinidad and Tobago's Communication Workers' Union issued a press release demanding that "U.S. authorities lend credibility to their proclaimed anti-terrorist stance, by repatriating terrorist Luis Posada Carrilles to Venezuela."

The statement, signed by the Union's Deputy Secretary General Laurence Brown, says the union joins the Cuban government and people and all progressive thinking, including citizens of the United States, in "condemning the inaction of the Bush-led administration for not lifting a finger to ensure that one of the world's senior terrorist, Luis Posada Carriles, is made to pay for his crimes against the Cuban people and the rest of the civilized world."

The document makes reference to Posada's participation in the planning of the 1976 sabotage to a Cuban passenger plane off the costs of Barbados, killing 73 people. "This incident...is yet to be put to rest in the minds and hearts of the people of Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Cuba."

The workers stated that the recent freeing of Posada Carriles is a testimony to the U.S authorities' double standards, who revel in portraying themselves "as world police and guardians of democracy."
