US Lawyer Protests About Freeing of Posada

CUBA ,  May 15, 2007.-  "Incompetance and cowardice in US court and not lack of charges were the reason Posada Carriles was set free," said Debra Evenson, a US lawyer attending the International Commission on Jurists to start this Thursday in La Paz, Bolivia.

Evenson called it shameful the fact that Posada walked out of prison unpunished after Judge Kathleen Cardone refused to try him in El Paso, Texas for just seven migratory charges.

The American lawyer confirmed her joining a claim signed by over 5,000 personalities in politics and culture worldwide, among them five Nobel laureates.

The subscribers also demanded that Posada be either tried as terrorist by US courts or extradited to Venezuela for justice to take place.

In Evenson´s opinion, behind the decisions made in court by US judges in the Posada case lies the sole intention of the Bush administration to protect a self confessed CIA agent.

It is controversial, Ms Evenson added, when discussing terrorism, that Washington releases a criminal and keeps five young Cuban men in prison for fighting against terrorism.

The International Commission of Jurists may well issue a statement on the case of Posada Carriles, she told.
