WASHINGTON , May 8, 2007.- US legislators are due to analyze in the Congress Tuesday the government s passivity in the judicial process against criminal Luis Posada Carriles, recently released on bail by a federal court. Democratic representative from Massachusetts William Delahunt, main promoter of the initiative, stated Posada Carriles impunity questions the US commitment of fighting terrorism. Delahunt ensured that many legislators rejected the terrorist s release, due to his long criminal record, including the mid-air explosion of the Cuban airplane with 73 passengers in 1976. The intention to evaluate the attitude by the White House and the Department of Justice emerged in mid 2006, but got larger support as of April 19, when Posada paid his way out of jail. The forum will also analyze the trifling charges presented against the criminal, whom Washington is trying for lying to immigration authorities despite having evidence that links him to terrorist actions and political scandals like the Iran-Contra case. Michigan congressman John Conyers, president of the House of Representatives Judicial Committee, and Ohio representative Dennis Kucinich, democratic candidate to the presidency, will attend the meeting.
