Venezuela Urges Posada Extradition

VENEZUELA , November 7, 2007.-  Attorney Jose Pertierra, who represents Venezuela in the plaintiff against terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, said his client insists on the fugitive's extradition in spite of the course of the case.

Pertierra called ridiculous and hypocritical the arguments US authorities submitted Tuesday to sustain an appeal against the release of the terrorist charged with lying to emigration authorities.

He told Telesur that "this man is a murderer that should be extradited to Venezuela or tried in the US for the bombing of a plane, not as a someone who lied in filling out immigration forms."

The attorney noted that the case attests to the hypocrisy of the US system that jails people without charges while terror suspects like Posada, the confessed bomber of a civilian plane in 1976 that killed 73 people, walks free.

Pertierra said the arguments against the appeal to keep Posada in jail are an attempt to keep the case in the context of a minor offense instead of extraditing him to Venezuela .

He reminded that the judge admitted that even if the court would have condemned him for lying the sentence would be one year in jail and even if the public prosecutor wins the appeal, Posada would be freed because he already did the time.

The attorney explained that Venezuela insists on extraditing the terrorist whom in addition to the case of the Cuban plane confessed involvement in the bombing of tourist resorts in Havana . (Cubaminrex-PL)
