Venezuela Lawmaker Condemns US Protection of Terrorism

VENEZUELA, April 10, 2007.- The president of Venezuela´s National Assembly, Cilia Flores, asked female parliamentarians of the world to condemn US protection of Cuban-born terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.

During a meeting with lawmakers attending the 14th World Congress of the Women´s International Democratic Federation (WIDF), Flores criticized a US court ruling that granted bail to the criminal.

Posada escaped from Venezuelan justice, which has requested his extradition from the United States to try him for his involvement in the blowing up of a Cuban airliner in mid flight in 1976, killing all 73 people on board.

At the meeting, held at the Federal Legislative Palace, Flores said that the Venezuelan National Assembly is debating a draft resolution to condemn the US court ruling.

Posada Carriles, who planed the crime on Venezuelan territory, was arrested in the United States but was charged for lying to US immigration authorities. The US has ignored Venezuela´s extradition request and has not indicted Posada Carriles for terrorism.

The WIDF Congress was inaugurated on Monday with the participation of 1,500 delegates from 84 countries. The meeting is aimed at boosting women´s unity in defense of their rights, advocating peace and condemning wars. (Cubaminrex-PL)
