Californian Support of the Cuban Five Steps Up

Havana, Nov 9 (AIN) The “Solidarity with the Five Committee” in San Francisco has broadened its support for the five Cuban political prisoners incarcerated in the US through a vigorous campaign supporting the rights of the families of the prisoners to visit them in American jails.

In a message on Cuba’s Radio Reloj radio station, the members of the solidarity committee denounced the White House’s placing of systematic obstacles to prevent “the Five’s” mothers, wives, sons and daughters from visiting them.

The committee calls on the international community to fight on the Five’s behalf by sending messages to the US Attorney General to issue entry visas for their relatives.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and René Gonzalez were arrested in 1998 and sentenced to harsh sentences by a biased Miami court in 2001 for the "crime" of uncovering terrorist plots by Cuban-American organizations directed against Cuba.

Their mission was to gather information in an attempt to prevent criminal actions against the island by those right-wing organizations which for the last 40 years have acted with total impunity inside the United States.
